About the Add Watermark tool
A watermark marks a document as a draft, a copy, or yours. This tool stamps text or an image across the pages you choose and shows you a live preview of page one as you adjust the size, angle, colour and opacity, so you are never guessing what the result will look like.
You can place the watermark over the content, which is the familiar semi-transparent stamp, or behind it, so the document's own text and images stay perfectly crisp on top. Both options keep the PDF's text selectable and its links clickable — nothing is flattened into an image.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my logo as the watermark?+
Yes. Switch to the image option and choose a PNG or JPG. A PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest result, and you can scale it as a percentage of the page width.
What is the difference between over and behind the content?+
Over the content paints the watermark on top of everything, which is the classic look at a low opacity. Behind the content puts it under the page's text and images, so the document stays perfectly legible. Both keep text selectable.
Can I watermark only some pages?+
Yes. Turn off 'Every page' and enter a range such as 1-3, 7, 10- to stamp only those pages.
Can the watermark be removed afterwards?+
It is drawn into the page content, so it is not a layer that toggles off in a reader. Anyone determined enough can edit a PDF, so treat a watermark as a deterrent and a label rather than as security.
Why can't I use certain characters in the text?+
The fonts built into every PDF reader cover Latin characters only. For other scripts or emoji, render your text as a transparent PNG and use the image watermark instead.
