About the Word to PDF tool
Sending a Word document means hoping the other person has Word, and that their version paginates it the same way yours does. A PDF removes all of that. This tool reads the .docx directly — it is a ZIP of XML underneath — and re-typesets its headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and images onto the page size you choose.
Be clear about what that means: this converts your document's content faithfully, but it is not a reimplementation of Word's own layout engine. If you need a byte-perfect visual match, Word's own Save As PDF is the right tool. If you need a shareable, readable, searchable PDF without installing anything or uploading a confidential document to a stranger's server, this is a good deal.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert an old .doc file?+
No. The legacy .doc format is a completely different binary format, not a ZIP of XML. Open it in Word or a free alternative and save it as .docx first.
What gets converted, and what doesn't?+
Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic, colours, alignment, bulleted and numbered lists, tables, images and hyperlinks all come through. Headers and footers, page columns, text boxes, floating shapes, footnotes, comments and tracked changes do not.
Will the page breaks be in the same places?+
Not necessarily. The document is re-typeset for the page size and font you choose, so text reflows and breaks land where they fall. The content and its order are preserved exactly.
Do my fonts get used?+
No. The output uses the fonts built into every PDF reader, which is why the file stays small and displays identically everywhere. You choose between a serif, sans-serif or monospaced face.
What about documents in Chinese, Arabic or Russian?+
The built-in PDF fonts only cover Latin characters. Text in other scripts is replaced and you get a warning saying exactly which characters were affected.
